Customer: PICNIC


Tasks:

At PICNIC, they sell thousands of products across dozens of fulfillment centers. This requires meticulous inventory management, as product attributes can vary depending on the warehouse. During my time, PICNIC was struggling to keep up with the ever-changing demands of our supply chain, and this was leading to stockouts and overstocking, which was increasing our costs.

  • I supported the IT team in finding a solution to improve the inventory management and reduce costs
  • We researched various inventory management software solutions and decided to implement MDM Inventory platform


Action:

  • I worked with a team of cross-functional stakeholders to implement MDM (MASTER DATA MANAGEMENT ) Inventory 
  • This involved setting up the software, adding products to our inventory, and configuring settings such as stock levels and reorder points. I also supported a training program of employees on how to use the software effectively


Now the question I how implement the master data management for inventory:

  • Centralize product data:
    • I helped him to identify and migrate all of the product data from the various existing systems into a single, centralized repository
    • This ensures that all product data is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
  • Implement data validation rules:
    • I helped him to develop and implement data validation rules to ensure that the product data was accurate and consistent.For example, a rule can be set to reject any product data that contains invalid or missing information
  • Use data normalization techniques:
    • I helped him to normalize the product data to ensure that it was consistent across all product categories
    • For example, all product weights can be standardized to a single unit of measurement, such as grams or pounds


Result:

After implementing MDM Inventory, we were able to reduce our inventory costs by 10%. This was achieved by:
  • Reducing stockouts:
    • MDM Inventory helped PICNIC to improve our inventory forecasting and replenishment, which reduced the number of stockouts
  • Reducing overstocking:
    • MDM Inventory gave us real-time visibility into our inventory levels, which helped us to avoid overstocking
  • Improving inventory accuracy:
    • MDM Inventory helped PICNIC to improve the accuracy of our inventory records, which reduced the risk of errors
    • In addition to reducing costs, MDM Inventory also helped PICNIC to improve its customer service
    • We were able to fulfill orders more efficiently and accurately, which led to increased customer satisfaction
