• Was part of the team that designed the strategy and implemented Clinical Development Plan for COVID-19 mRNA vaccines candidates in the context of the COVID-19 pandemics and post pandemic (second generation of covid vaccines), in close dialogue with health and regulatory authorities and in collaboration with national expert teams.
• Led clinical sub team at program level (combining clinical development, clinical operations, clinical science, and clinical safety functions) both in projects, in the context of the COVID-19 program co-developed with GSK since 2021 and in the program co-developed with United Kingdom´s Vaccine Taskforce and University of Southampton, during 2020-2021.
• Implemented and held responsibility over a range of Clinical Trials (various Ph1/first-in-human, Ph2 and Ph3I), as medical responsible person, and in co-development with other companies (e.g. Bayer, GSK) and in close collaboration with external experts, like the above mentioned (United Kingdom´s Vaccine Taskforce and University of Southampton).

• Led the global medical strategy and the global medical activities for the therapeutic area, including Clinical Development (Ph 1-3) and Medical Affairs.
• Led a team of five Global Medical Leads working in different programs.
• Contributed for the development and execution of a robust consumer-centric business plan for the different global brands, working within the global cross-functional Allergy/Cough & Cold team.
• Led a cross-functional project team under the collaboration with Plug and Play (combining medical, regulatory, commercial, business intelligence and IT functions), when Sanofi scouted for biotech startups owning innovative solutions, then co-developing products targeting unmet medical needs and finally implementing pilot studies to test innovation acceptability.
• Supported lifecycle management of the therapeutic area´s products worldwide, including Phase I and Phase III clinical trials on new indications.
• Was part of the team promoting transformational changes within the organization, either on the use of new technologies/ digital channels/AI (e.g. partnering with startups for clinically validated solutions anchored in AI) and on innovative ways of working (e.g. Agile/Lean methodologies ?champion?; Digital Medical ?champion?).

Tasks:

• Worked in alignment with the region´s Brand Teams across the whole portfolio of products, including GSK Vaccines (Vaccines Medical ?Champion? for the Region), GSK Pharma, Stiefel, ViiV (HIV) and Consumer Healthcare.
• Led medical strategy and activities in Angola and Mozambique, two recently established and fast-growing markets where the stakeholders and influences were to be mapped and assessed in the field.
• Kicked off the sharing of best practices within EMAP with countries that faced similar cultural issues and medical practices, working across boundaries.
• Worked closely with the Ministry of Health, WHO, UNICEF and GAVI to launch the rotavirus vaccine, maintain 10v pneumococcal vaccine and get HPV 16/18 to be the preferred vaccine in the Angola and Mozambique UMVs (via GAVI). Provided training and support to the first campaigns and pilot-studies, pairing with MoH, WHO and UNICEF country officers. Supported the malaria vaccine launch plan, namely engaging with MoH Public Health KOLs and mapping issues to be assessed in each the countries´ PV system.
• Launched, for Angola and Mozambique, Portugal and Brazil, an online repository to allow the sharing of materials developed in Portuguese.
• Presented as Invited Expert/Speaker for Vaccines, Anti-Infectives, HIV and Respiratory Portfolio - either in public and private environment, either in promotional or scientific engagement activities, including the launch of different GSK products, including vaccines, antibiotics, new presentations of paracetamol and dolutegravir.
• Trained a newly recruited sales force team in the various therapeutic areas in both Angola and Mozambique and tutored a local Medical Manager (Angola) until handover.
• Led a cross-functional project team under the collaboration with Health Authorities when supporting Angola and Mozambique submit their epidemiological (burden of disease) and pharmacovigilance dossiers to GAVI on Rotavirus, HPV and pneumococcal disease.
• Took part of the organization of the first ever Pulmonology International Congress held in the Region bringing together experts from European Countries (European Respiratory Society) and African Countries.

• Was the GSK preferred contact for National Health General-Directorate regarding GSK Vaccines in the National Immunization Program (NIP) and worked closely with major KOLs and MoH Advisory Groups to make HPV 16/18 the preferred vaccine to be introduced in NIP (tender) and establish the need for dTp booster in adolescents and during pregnancy as a strategy to prevent pertussis in infants <6 months old (during pertussis epidemics 2012/13).
