  • Designing Frame-Relay, ISDN,ATM and Virtual Private Networks(VPN)
  • Configuring Cisco Routers for the implementation roll-out
  • Supporting different departments with technical information

Task

Part of a migration team responsible for migrating over 4000 Cisco routers from HPOV monitoring platform to Cabletron Spectrum Network management platform. Supporting IP Engineering and IP TAC groups with testing and accepting IP devices on Spectrum.

Work also involved:

  • Supporting IP TAC through maintenance windows
  • Working together with IP TAC and IP Engineering supporting the groups with implementing and testing on Cisco routers.
  • Updating and maintaining databases after confirmation from IP Engineering that testing and acceptance period passed.
  • Modelling IP devices onto Spectrum platform.
  • Writing testing and acceptance documentation on Spectrum for Network management center.
  • Implementing TACACS+ on several Cisco routers
  • Setting up a test lab for Spectrum to check functions and monitor reactions.

1998 - 1999: monitoring and 2nd – 3rd Line trouble management

Role: NETWORK ENGINEER
Customer: GLOBAL ONE / FRANKFURT

Task
Responsible for the day to day monitoring and 2nd – 3rd Line trouble management of over 5000 Cisco routers and associated IP equipment. World-wide, via electronic means (HP Open View, Cisco Works, Microsoft Outlook, ProCom, etc).

Work also involved:

  • Liasing with customer technicians and management on technical issues concerning customer networks.
  • Trouble shooting and configuration of WAN routers via Telnet or dial in Modem. Resolving problems quickly or settle contingency issues, to get customer networks back up.
  • Protocol investigation including RIP, OSPF, IGRP, EIGRP, BGP.
  • Working closely with other technical groups to ensure a speedy recovery of customer outages.
